Montana AFL-CIO Announces Endorsements

(HELENA, MONT.) – Today the Montana AFL-CIO announced their endorsements for Governor, Attorney General, State Auditor, Superintendent of Public Instruction, and Secretary of State.

The Montana AFL-CIO represents 35 unions, 500 locals, and 50,000 working Montanans and their families. All candidates for statewide offices were invited to interview with the Montana AFL-CIO Executive Board, which is elected by the Montana AFL-CIO membership. Most candidates accepted the invitation and spoke with the thirteen member board in early January.

The Montana AFL-CIO has endorsed Governor Steve Bullock for re-election; Attorney General Tim Fox for re-election; Jesse Laslovich for State Auditor; Melissa Romano for Superintendent of Public Instruction; and State Auditor Monica Lindeen for Secretary of State.

“Working Montanans need leaders who will stand with them, not deep-pocketed special interests that want to strip away workers’ rights. After hearing from the candidates, the Montana AFL-CIO is proud to support the candidacies of these pro-working class candidates,” said Al Ekblad, Executive Secretary of the Montana AFL-CIO.

Ekblad released the following statement in specific regard to the endorsement of Governor Bullock:

“Governor Bullock has a proven track record of collaborating with and fighting for working Montanans. Despite extreme obstructionism, the Governor has managed to pass legislation important to the working class. His opponent has already made it clear that he has no interest in working with us or our 50,000 members.”

Ekblad also released the following statement in regard to the State Auditor, Superintendent of Public Instruction, and Secretary of State races:

“Our membership is very troubled by the radical agendas that have been pushed by Rosendale, Arntzen, and Stapleton in the past.  Laslovich, Romano, and Lindeen are all Montanans who know the value of a hard day’s work and will move our state forward, not backward.”
